PEDGO (Peoples Educating Group) is a non-profit
making community-based organization (CBO) from Musoma (on the shores
of Lake Victoria) which is running a non-formal education programme.
This group provides classes for children and adults who were never
enrolled in formal education and those who did not complete standard
seven or who completed standard seven but did not continue with
secondary education due to poverty or other reasons. Some children
come here after school hours to get additional tuition.
PEDGO's Main Aim
To enrich people with knowledge and skills that
can help them get rid of poverty.
PEDGO's Belief
That Poverty, Ignorance and Disease are our country's
three great enemies and can only be overcome if all our people are
well educated.
PEDGO's Objectives
To provide informal education through Complementary
Basic Education (COBEC) programme to those children who do not happen
to be enrolled in a formal education programme as stipulated in
the government policy.
- To provide enhanced education to those who
do not happen to continue with secondary and higher education
- To provide adult education to those who do
not happen to get formal education during their early adolescence.
- To provide appropriate modern technology education
to cope with the current scientific and technology system.
- To conduct evening classes in order to increase
knowledge that will enable the community to improve their social
and economic development activities.
- To provide informal education which will enable
the community to combat poverty, illiteracy and diseases through
various methods such as seminars, workshops, debate, public meetings,
video, handouts, etc.
- To provide assistance to those who are disadvantaged
in many ways such as orphans and children living in especially
difficult circumstances, elderly, widows, disabled and the needy.
- To provide knowledge on AIDS prevention through
different methods, assist those infected with AIDS and cope with
social and economic consequences of AIDS.
- To collaborate with other groups having
the same field of interest for the purpose of achieving our aim
and objectives.
